And The Credits Roll

And The Credits Roll, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)

The last period on the last page
Of the novel you just read
While you curled up in bed
You enjoyed it knowing it had a last word

The next evening you went to a concert
It was Taylor, Reba, Metallica, ABBA
San Francisco Symphony, maybe Usher
You enjoyed it, knowing it played a last note

The next summer, you looked forward to
The latest blockbuster, at the Imax theater
The latest romance, thriller, horror, comedy
Knowing the lights would brighten at the end

The next spring comes along, bird sing their song
Summer beaches full of bathers, surfers and fishers
You know it leads to fall, work and school do call
Knowing winter is not that far

There were books written before you were born
There was music made before you were born
There were movies made before you were born
The seasons will keep going after you are gone

The universe will continue on, long after you are dead
Don’t live in fear or dread, don’t chase an afterlife
Instead, know that life after you die
Will feel the same as it did, before you were born

My words are nothing to scorn, nothing to hate
We certainly matter in the now, and to me that is great
That this finite life we get, is the path we chose to make
To live and love and and care for others in our flicker.
