Practice, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter)
Exactly how does one
Practice
Not robbing someone?
Exactly how does one
Practice
Not raping someone?
Exactly how does one
Practice
Not murdering someone?
It would seem
That refraining
From those acts
Would not in fact
Need
Practice
To become a doctor
You need medical school
That takes practice
To become a lawyer
You need law school
That takes practice
To get to Carnegie Hall
Doesn’t have to be said
Practice, practice, practice
To become an MVP
In the major leagues
Practice
To pass your SATs
Which the colleges see
Practice
Religion isn’t a practice
It is a club
No need to “practice”
Just buy, be convinced
By others, follow
And swallow, conform
There is no “practice”
In wanting so badly
For false comfort to be true
Yet much effort
Is is invested
In belonging to
Ancient words
Written by those
Who
Knew not better
But now we do
Practice critical thinking
It insures you
The best insulation
From mistaking
Mythology as true.
