Our Constitutional Republic
Never gave absolute rule
To the person in the Oval Office

The founders did not fight
The King of England just
To create another authoritarian

The only reason the former guy
Is making this argument now
Is that he is desperate to somehow

Escape prosecution, falsely playing victim
It isn’t an official act, to incite a mob
To attack the Capital and disrupt

An official legal proceeding, nor is stealing
Nuclear secrets, then turn to obstructing
The government trying to get them back

Dictators want immunity, lack of scrutiny
Despot wannabes will try to cause a mutiny
Desperate to escape accountability

Dick Nixon, also reasoned
“It’s not illegal when the President does it”
But back then his GOP knew it

Knew that he broke the law
Unfortunately today Republicans
Have lost their way, reason has lost it’s call

We must protect the checks on power
Or certainly our experiment, authored by Jefferson
Paine and Washington, will end in a death spiral fall
