She Was Silenced

She Was Silenced, By Brian37 (Now Jackie Leigh) (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @brianrrs37 on Twitter)

In the Victorian era
Where knees and elbows
If women were to expose
They would be harshly scorned

She figured out, and tried to warn
Too much water vapor, or CO2
It would trap the heat
Damage certain to be true

Male peers ignored her work
How dare a woman shake
The social norms of pink and blue
Her recognition in 2011 was long overdue

In 1856, Eunice Foote, did so prove
What we call greenhouse gasses
The modern term “Climate change”
Her work did never move

Public perception, patriarchal rejection
And now, well over 150 years later
The threat to our species exponentially greater
The ignorant oil companies exponentially greedier

They buried a woman who
Was merely telling the truth
Her paper now has proof
And we should have listened back then
(end)

I just stumbled across an article about Eunice Foote. I had long thought that the proof of global warming was found in the late 1800s. I had no clue that anyone had discovered greenhouse gasses that early. But unfortunately, it makes sense, because back then, women were never taken seriously, especially in male dominated science.
