Trees, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)

Trees
Bend in the breeze
When it is brisk
And strong with speed

The mangrove
Palm and pine
Oak, maple
Willow

Wild fires bellow
Burn the bark
They become charcoal
Dying in the dark

The trees are XYY
XXY and XO
Humans are not
A binary show

They have seeds, some acorns
Some are Spinning Jennies
Others pods
And cones or bracts

And the pollen bunched up
On the legs of the bumble bee
The oxygen provided for thee
They’ve always been part of history

The ignorant can never see
The beauty in transgender variety
And they just want to live
Under the sunshine able to give

Their vibrant colors, their joy
But the arsonist wants to destroy
Light the match, in dry switchgrass
Dehumanize them, as unwanted weeds

But they are the oak, the malpe
They lean in the heavy winds
Of the hate filled hurricane
They tear off limbs in the tornado

But they will never break
They will never leave
They will prevail
The bigots will never achieve

Erasing their existence
They will survive with persistence
The storms will come relentless
And they will rise above

Like the redwood
