Pattern Seekers, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)
There is this horrible affinity, absurd attraction
Nothing more than a distraction, that when we
Humans make a discovery, it must come from above
In my many years of being online, I have seen
Countless times, the apologists of every religion
Try to use science to point to their club
But here’s the rub, Christians will claim Aquinas
Muslims will point to algebra, plus or minus
Jews, will do this to, don’t for get a Hindu
All of them have apologists, that are not really scientists
That will try to claim a patent on the method
When neutrality is what ethics has always insisted
It is true that a Jew, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist too
Are all capable of accepting science through and through
But mixing religion in the lab, the ethical ones wont do
There is no creation science, there is just science
There is no Muslim Algebra, there is just Algebra
There is no Buddhist theory of evolution
Did I mention, there is no Hindu theory of gravity
And that is the reality of science, universal compliance
Of objectivity, productivity, without the personal bias
We can see other animals seek patterns too
We can see an octopi figure out how to open a lid
We can observe a mother bear teaching it’s kid
It is why you can teach a dog to sit, for a bit
It is why you can see orcas work in packs
And the pachyderm will mourn their dead
Humans need to get it through their head
There is no one upstairs helping us, don’t fuss
If we want to get things done, we are the only ones.
