Death Of Apology, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter)
Used to defend old mythology
Based on corrupt chronology
That contains no real history
To pre suppose what one knows
Appeal to tradition, anything goes
The hedgerows and weeds aways pose
Obstacles in the road, ignorance is the mode
Fed as food to the youth, fairy tales with no proof
Skepticism had no chance, kneecapped in advance
Posts no goal, always moving, never seeking
Never improving, satisfied with fantastic claims
Absurdities kill in vein, holy wars still remain
Intellect a mere mask, blasphemy if you dare ask
Submission and contrition your only task
Obedience, compliance, blind loyalty reliance
I’ll combat with defiance, for it is not science
Apology is an appeal, it maters not, if not real
Oil of serpents poisons and will steal
Your reason, set you up for mind treason
A comforting lie irresistibly pleasing
And they are defending the sum of nothing
Never to adapt to proven fact
Never to let go of a faulty past
Protect the fantasy at all costs
Occam’s razor must not be lost
It slays the lies it melts the frost
Out to the dustbin the garbage is tossed
(end)
“Apology” isn’t an appeal to scientific fact. It is basically the idea of convincing others. Apology only depends on argumentation. It does not depend on scientific independent peer review.
Plato contributed overall to the idea of thinking for yourself. His problem was that many of his ideas really didn’t have the solid foundation of independent peer review in modern science. It was still for the most part mainly about convincing someone to take your side in a debate.
Apology is used widely today by believers of all the world’s religions. It isn’t appealing to something universally neutral. It is merely trying to convince someone else you picked the right club, the right holy writing. The right sky hero.
