Let’s Go Surfing Now

Let’s Go Surfing Now, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)

Place a bowling ball in the middle
Of a waterbed, deep indentation
Represents the bend in space/time
Of a black hole instead

Long ago Einstein did know
Like throwing a pebble
In a pond, the ripples
Would travel on and on

Gravitational wave detector
Laser interferometer
Confirmed decades later
Albert’s prediction

L shaped, two miles long
So sensitive, so strong
It can detect a disruption
Not even an atom long

Black holes billions light years from us
Send waves to LIGO to catch
Greene with envy I latch
To any science they dispatch
(end)

I was just watching a video of particle physicist Brian Greene explaining how LIGO Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observer, detects sub atomical disruptions that break up the laser, much like one could set off a laser alarm by breaking it’s line. Except this laser is so sensitive it can detect disruptions smaller than the width of an atom. Imagine throwing a pebble or rock into a lake, and a small fishing bob near the shore bobs up and down, because the wave hits it. This is how we measure black holes, and the affects they have on the objects around us. And it also gives us insight as to the Big Bang.
