Your Numbers Are Up, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)
War
Good God
What is it great for?
Absolutely virgins!
Moses at the battle of Midian
Followed the the Lord’s command
Defeated the enemy’s plan
Killed every man in the land
Balaam son of Beor
Slew like those before
The bounty their flocks of sheep
Women and children they did keep
But Moses angry at Eleazar priest
Of the women they wanted to keep
He said they were corrupt and dirty
And thus their baby male spawn filthy
They should surely
Be put 6 foot deep
Yet of the bounty they did so reap
The virgins they get to keep.
Numbers 31:7-18
It remains to be seen
How from this barbarity
Morality could be gleaned
(end)
I always like to make it clear, this is a criticism of what I consider a book of mythology. It is in no way a call for the forced end of religion.
But an advocacy of skepticism, along the lines of Jefferson “Question with boldness even the existence of a God, for if there be one, surely he would pay more homage to reason than to that of blindfolded fear.” And also from Jefferson “Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions”.
And Jefferson, who was a deist, not an atheist, also wrote this in a letter to Adams April 11th 1823, “And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.”
