Helix The Cat

Helix The Cat, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)

Double, double, twisty ladder
Those base pairs made the otter
And single cells and lions and tigers
Short hairs and calicos everyone knows

Long ago in my youth I sat in class
At my desk, felling dumb, a stupid mess
I didn’t have the brains to guess
What a nucleotide was, I failed the test

But today without the stress
I looked at
A short video
And I was impressed

Phosphate, sugar and base,
I have become an ace
Adenine and Guanine
Have two rings called purines

Thymine and Cytosine
Have one ring
Thus they’re named
Pyrimidines

But when they date
The pairs must mate
Adenine and Thymine
Guanine and Cytosine

To make it a three ring circus
Each ring in this ladder
The spiral staircase
All life is this so traced.
(end)

Just like big fancy words in high school and early college. I sucked at science. A lot of that was performance anxiety. I felt stupid back then. But today I looked up the structure on a very simply video without the stress of being graded, and I got it.
