Menial, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB/META and @brianrrs37 on Twitter/X)
Easy to learn when low you earn
Your energy you burn, the snobs wills scorn
Easy to learn doesn’t mean easy to do
When traffic is high and employees are few
They blame you for not moving up
Yet they ignore that you fill their coffee cup
They pick up your garbage yet you disparage
From your ivory tower in your crystal carriage
They get you to vote against your own self interests
Billionaire tax cuts to the national debt earns interest
“Starter job” their common resort
But who is behind the counter when the kids report
To high school or college, they will not acknowledge
Your existence as dignified or recognized
You are just something to be used and discarded
Work until the funeral home has their final profit
“Hard work” is a convenient cliche
Allowing the greedy bourgeoise
To use you as as pawns
While they play
I am not against the private sector
I am against any condescending lecture
That those at the bottom do not matter
While you sit in judgment at the top a squatter
You are not the “job creator”, demand is
Without the buyers to buy what you sell
Your business most certainly would fail
Without those workers no profits to show
“Menial” is a pejorative, passive aggressive word
Used by the assholes who won’t do the work
If you use labor don’t be a jerk
Livable wages are what they are worth.
(end)
I am not against the private sector. I get people wanting to own businesses. I am for mom and pop shops. But I am against corporate bullying and the blackmail of cutting jobs or shipping them overseas when you don’t get what you want.
I like that I can have a burger one day, and a pizza the next. I like deciding what I buy anywhere I go. But while inflation is normal and costs do have to be raised somewhat, 40 years of deregulation and don’t tax the rich has only done one thing, made billionaires richer. Livable wages are the only thing that keeps a society stable. Anything less is exploitation. Affordable health care and affordable housing and livable wages, are the things that will create less government dependency.
